#StillInIt 2017 - Week 4

This will be a short post. I was sick majority of the Week 4 of 8 of this Bodybuilding.com #StilInIt Challenge. I started to feel sick starting on Monday.

Monday
I slept in and decided to go to the gym to try to sweat it out. I just did cardio on the bike to keep my body moving. I went to work, tried to stick it out but couldn't even make it an hour and I went home. I stopped off at Jamba Juice to get an Orange Dream Machine for some Vitamin D and had Panda Express looking for Hot and Sour Soup but they stopped carrying soup. Instead I went with Orange Chicken, Broccoli & Beef and Chow Mein and Veggies. I then headed home to sleep, relax and watch Chopped with Bevo.

Tuesday & Wednesday
Stayed home, no workout. Ordered Eat24.

Thursday
A good friend brought over FOUR canisters of homemade soup and broth. I immediately felt better. The next day, I was OK enough to go to work.

Friday
I drove into work to avoid coughing and sneezing and having that gross mucus sniffle on a crowded Bart train. I immediately went to Project Juice for breakfast with their delicious Almond Butter Toast and their Immunity pressed juice with orange, grapefruit, lemon, ginger and cayenne. It wasn't bad. I'm just not too fond of ginger.  For lunch, I had DW's Bison Stew. I stayed in that evening obviously but had the last of my friend's soup and read an old Women's Health magazine with my favorite, Christina Aguilera, on the cover. I was getting pumped up to get back to the challenge.

Like my sick defense pack around my bowl?

Saturday
I took advantage of the weekend off with no plans. I did a little ab and booty work.

Sunday
It was weigh-in time. I was pleased to know that I didn't lose any muscle mass and I was just half a pound over the best weigh-in of this challenge. Not bad. I did more ab work and push ups. Feeling better, I knew I was going to get back to the challenge and go pretty hard for Week 5. Half way there and have a lot to make up for! I even meal prepped!

Breakfast for lunch!
Stay healthy. Clean your house, especially common areas, if you live with a roommate. Take your vitamins, drink a lot of water and try everything to go without a cold. Nobody has time for that!

See How Art Can Change the World

If I can keep the same sunglasses for over five years, I can see how, as Artist, Robert Rauschenberg says, "art can change the world." Summer is coming up but people in need is year round. Partnering with Warby Parker, a company that distributes a pair of glasses to those in need for each pair sold, takes it a step farther and has a new line benefiting the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. Over five years, Rauschenberg 'traveled to ten countries - in many of which freedom of expression was oppressed - with the goal of sparking dialogue and forging mutual understanding through the creative process."

My personal favorite are the Primrose Crystal sunglasses. I do not and have never owned a pair of sunglasses that weren't black framed and dark as could be. I would rock these this Summer as a Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk season pass holder wearing cut off jeans, an airy, light-colored top and flip flops with my matching pink pedicured toes, while holding my 3-year-old niece's hand and be the coolest lookin' auntie on The Boardwalk.

I would gift the Crystal Marina to my sister. She's not a fan of pink so more for me! Growing up, she always loved Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. I remember that she asked for a Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins for her birthday. I just ate the cake. Not the ice cream. I picture her wearing these at her future beach house in Wilmington, North Carolina eating all the Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream her heart desires!

I would totally rock the Ceruleon Crystal Sunglasses as blue is my favorite color. I am not afraid of attention and these will definitely get me some. I would pair these with Stella & Dot's blue Kali Tunic while walking the beaches of Wailea in Hawaii.

Which would you pick for yourself?
Why?

Consider picking up one of these beautiful pair of sunglasses at one of three locations in the San Francisco Bay Area for a good cause and look good at the same time.

Trust & Business

Trust and business - seem to go hand in hand, right? When you go into business with friends and family, you would think the partnership would be much more secure. I have received many different view points on this, one of which is a family member and other are two successful businessmen that have known me for over 10 years. These discussions take place over drinks.

Except the one with my father. I had the Sapporo earlier at my Lola's dinner. My father is my financial adviser and one of the only men I can truly trust. It was a difficult discussion of something I am ashamed to speak of: failure, even at the age of 36. I still do not want to disappoint my father. Instead, he understood my actions and gave me some great advice.

The second person I turned to was someone I have known for about 10 years and is a successful businessman involved in many different kinds of businesses. I have been trusted with his social gatherings, property, family and money. I would never jeopardize the trust he has in me. Now came a time when I asked him for his help. We met up at Mourad for drinks and I had the octopus. It was delicious. I explained the situation, he gave me advice, tips and possible next steps.

The third person I turned to has known me since I was 19, almost 18 years! He is also a very successful businessman and is a good friend. We met up in Pleasanton at McKay's Taphouse and Beer Garden for beer and Baci for champagne. At first he had a different direction for me than my father and other friend, then he said he agreed I was making the right decision.

And there's the consensus. When making big decisions, try to keep your emotions in check and seek advice from those you trust, know you well and have your best interest in mind. And a good cocktail or pint of beer can't hurt either. Good luck!

Hike for Girls with GirlVentures - May 7, 2017

Another year supporting GirlVentures, the Hike for Girls at Tilden Regional Park took place exactly one year later on May 7th, 2017. GirlVentures' mission 'is to empower adolescent girls to develop and express their strengths.' On last year's hike, I met a girl named Lina. This year she was one of the speakers. It's amazing how much can change in a year. Congratulations, Lina! Bevo had a good time too.

They ahve chicken sandwiches, a BLT, dessert and more. Find Rockit Char Grill downtown Hayward. Parking may be found on the street, in the parking lot across the street or the parking structure behind the restaurant. It's walking distance from Hayward Bart as well. I will have to come back to try other items. Also this post enters us to win free food. Please like this post. Blog post on my site will be coming soon."

Stella & Dot Hostess Turned Model - Erika

Thanks to my friend, Erika, she is my first Stella & Dot Hostess now that I'm back at it!

She asked me a few months ago to help her get some new clothes. I bought a lot of clothes from Hot Miami Styles where I often shop and unfortunately, she didn't like anything I picked and we shipped everything back. Now no longer wearing a uniform to work, she asked for some help in what to wear. She's got some style and she cleans up really nice. She would Snapchat pictures of her outfit and I'd say that I would have a great piece of jewelry to add to it. She offered to model some and post pictures of it on social media. I thought, well, she's doing the work to get the jewelry some attention. She might as well get rewarded for her efforts in free jewelry as a hostess. And lucky her, she already has three orders! She is definitely on her way to earning some rewards. Check out these great photos.

Support her and order from her trunk show here

The retired Signature Clover Earrings she sold for me!
The retired Jolie Necklace. Sample for sale $34.50.
The Toujours Lariat Necklace. Sample sale for sale $48.
The retired Stevie Necklace. Sample sale for $20.
Nice collections of selfies, right? Think you can take and post selfies of how you wear your Stella & Dot jewels? You know I am no stranger to the camera. If you think you can do this, start by being a hostess with me! I will provide you some jewelry to play with, post pics and it is an easy way to start a conversation about selling the jewelry via your trunk show OR as a hostess on my team. Let's talk about it. Contact me!

Mother's Day 2017

Being a mother is just not in the cards for me and I have recently come to grips with that. As a product of divorce and my lovely dating track record, I do not wish having an innocent go thru what I went thru if I have anything to do with it.  I'm OK with being a puppy momma to Bevo and an aunt to my several nieces and nephews.

Yesterday, I met up with our former Pastry Chef, Michelle, at her baby's first birthday party in San Bruno. It was a windy day and I had to stand in the sun. It was nice to catch up and know that she'll be A-OK after DW. Gabe is her first baby. He's a cutie and is smiling a lot more.

Then I spent time with my best friend and my niece and nephew. I treated her to a quick beauty session at the mall and a 'fancy' dinner at The Habit. We sang Moana songs in the car and had some Snapchat fun. Christy works so hard, is a good mom and does basically everything for the kids. I tried to do what I can to make sure she knows she's loved on Mother's Day, even though we did it one day before.

Spontaneously, I ended up a the Grand Opening of Dirty Bird in Hayward thanks to a text received by my Cousin Leslie. She was there because our friend Peter knows one of the samba dancers they were having. I had no idea the Dirty Bird was there. I always saw when I drove down Mission but never went. It's a pretty cool spot. I'll have to try their food some time. They had a fried chicken sandwich and empanadas. I was super full from The Habit so I just stuck with water.

My Cousin Leslie has three children with the youngest being 8 months old. I haven't met Logan yet. But soon! She's going to school, working full time and definitely has her hands full.

Today, on actual Mother's Day,  I took my Lola to church and then went to A'trio at the Marriott in Walnut Creek. The experience was pretty terrible with the busser setting the table throwing a spoon in front of Lola and roughly putting down semi-clean coffee mugs top-side down on the table. Servers were yelling across the dining room floor at each other. Our Server, Mimi, was nice but I had a 12:30 PM reservation and they pulled the buffet at that time. Thank goodness we arrived early to get some food. We were offered the lunch menu but no offer to have whatever we wanted at a discount or comped price. Why would they offer a 12:30 PM reservation on Opentable if the food wasn't going to be offered. They also charged a 20% service charge for three people. I can't say I'll ever take important women like my Lola and my sister there ever again. The topping on the cake was that I asked for a special events packet from the front desk. They told me they didn't have any and that I should come back tomorrow. As an Event Planner and part owner of a Restaurant, how hard is it to have this information readily available? It's kind of mind blowing how awful that experience was at a popular, international hotel chain.

Nonetheless, I was there to spend time with my family. My sister will be moving to North Carolina soon so holidays like this will be few and far between.

These are Wonder Women in my eyes. They are all different, have different responsibilities and challenges but they have chosen to take their role as a mother, own it and do what they can for their children. Cheers to you!

#StillInIt 2017 - Week 3

Week 3's goal was to lift more. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at a resting heart rate. I feel like I met that goal because I was so sore come Thursday and after a big leg day on Saturday. I felt I ate decently with oatmeal and fruit in the morning, a light dinner, salad majority of the time and I haven't had a drop of alcohol this week. It has been over two weeks since I have alcohol. For snacks, I am in love with Lenny & Larry's Birthday Cake cookies. When I am craving something sweet, I have a piece.

For some reason I gained .8 of a pound and my body fat increased by 4%. Why that is? I don't know. I thought I was on track to making progress, not taking a slight step backward. Any one have ideas?

Here's a recap of the week:
