A little getaway at my best friend's cabin in Boulder Creek, CA with the little ones means a trip to the
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Bevo and I headed down at about 9:45 AM on a Friday morning, caught some traffic on 880 South but had fun on the windy road to Boulder Creek. Some stop signs and lights were added as some parts of the road slid down the hills and the two-lane road became one.
We arrived at the cabin, jumped in their mini van as Bevo stayed behind with a much larger area to hang out in than being at home. We headed thru the cute downtown of Boulder Creek with their grocery store, gas station, fire station (ahem!), and even a brewery. I'll have to check it out sometime. Kind of hard to do with kids. We continued down thru Felton where
Roaring Camp is. What a fun place that is. If your kid loves trains, ride a real train thru the woods. I enjoyed it. They apparently also have
Thomas the Train there sometimes. Eventually we ended up in Santa Cruz via the back roads and arrived at
The Boardwalk. The main parking lot was full by that time but there's another towards the log ride at the end of the park. Prepare to pay $15 in cash and take advantage of the coupon sheet they give you.

Make your way to the ticket booth on
The Boardwalk and either check-in to get your wristbands for the day if you're a season pass holder or buy your season pass like I did. The weather has been great, it's not too far of a drive and I am down to go hang out at the beach and not have to pay for day passes. Season passes are basically $82, comes with a coupon book and you can bring four friends to get $5 off day passes each time you come. I figured I would get my money's worth.
First stop was food. Healthy options are slim to none. Everything is friend. We ordered the fried artichokes and zucchini. The kids had their pizza and chicken nuggets, followed by
Dippin' Dots. We finished most of what the kids didn't finish.
Next stop were the rides for the kids. Christy took care of most of that and Nate didn't want to ride anything for bigger kids claiming he'd throw up. The first ride I rode was with Arya, the Sea Serpent. A small kiddie roller coaster that goes around twice at least. We rode the log ride, thankfully we didn't get drenched and played a few games. Their daddy beat us all at the balloon pop game but Arya and I got the prizes, one apple for me, one strawberry for Arya.

It was funnel cake time. Be sure to use the $1 off coupon that you got with parking. I have gotten wrong the last two times. I should just stick with the original with powdered sugar and ice cream. But the strawberries and chocolate looked appealing. Arya couldn't wait to attack that.

Browse the shops, stare off at the ocean, look out at the pier to your right or to the lighthouse on your left. I look forward to attending one of the concerts they have there during the summer and taking a weekend, booking a hotel room close by and enjoying the summer.
