Twists at the Wharf

When you're a Concierge and can get coupons from several places, you try just about anything. After six months of working primarily at the beautiful Argonaut Hotel, it's your job to know where to send guests and to have personally tried and recommend certain dishes. (I'm comin' for you, GaryDanko!) I would say I have dined at quite a few places and I am a bit behind in writing about them here but I'm working on it. Thanks for your patience so don't get your knickers in a twist.

Buttery thin rolls of dough are twisted into pretzels at Auntie Anne's right here on Jefferson Street at Fisherman's Wharf. My Supervisor enjoys their mini pretzel dogs and has offered them to a couple of times, as well as pointing out that we have coupons! Buy one get one free? I just saved $5! 

I parked in the Mission this particular day as I was attending my friend's performance that evening at El Rio with The Frosted Tips. I wish I could have gotten a burrito but I jumped on the 49 bus for the first time and headed towards work. I decided to not spend an arm and a leg for a snack and ordered the cheapest item on their menu of a pretzel. You can get it plain or with toppings such as sugar and cinnamon and garlic and parmesan. You can get meals, pretzel bites, mini pretzel dogs or full size pretzel dogs. I went with just the two I just listed and they were not as soft as I remember them, probably because I mistook them for Wetzel Pretzels. Oops! I tasted the garlic and parmesan one and decided to give it to the homeless guy with a dog on the same block. For those not familiar with the variety of guests and sights you'll see in San Francisco, the conversation went along something like this:

"Is that your dog?" I say to the man leaning up against the window of In & Out Burger smoking a joint. The dog was laying on the street with his backpacks and skateboard.

"Yeah, he's allergic to weed so I have to stand over here," says the guy with gold and black sunglasses.

"Do you want the rest of this pretzel?"

"Oh, he can't have it. But I'd gladly eat it. Thank you, God bless."

Sorry, Puppy Dog, no pretzel for you.

Friendly staff but no place to sit. If you have time, take your pretzels and head to the Hyde Street Pier before they close at 5 PM to get a nice view of the pirate ship and Golden Gate Bridge.
